Queen Elizabeth National Park [Medley the wonders]

Queen Elizabeth National Park one of the most visited Uganda's Savannah parks in western Uganda. This park is in the regions of western Uganda spanning the districts of kasese, kamwenge, Rubirizi and Rukungiri. The park is approximately 400 kms by road South West of Kampala, Uganda's largest capital city.


The park includes the maramagambo forest reserve and boarders the kigezi Game reserve & the Kibale National Park in Uganda and the virunga national Park in the Democratic republic of Congo. The variety of habitats includes grassland savannah, riverine forest, wetlands and lakes 


Queen Elizabeth park occupies an estimated 1978 square kms . The park extends from lake George in the north east to lake Edward in the south west and includes the kazinga channel connecting the two lakes.


The park was founded in 1952 as kazinga channel National Park. It was Renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth 2 . The Kazinga channel is known for harbouring over 1000 hippos and it's known as a place having the highest Concentration of hippos in the entire world. The channel has greatly supported tourism in the famous boat cruise that offers the best opportunities to view amazing aquatic wildlife.


  WILD LIFE : Queen Elizabeth national Park is known for its wildlife, including the African buffalo, uganda kob, hippos , Nile crocodiles, African Savannah Elephants, leopards, lions and chimpanzee. It's home to 95 mammal species & over 600 bird species. Four of the big five are present and a regularly seen. 🦏 Rhinos are absent. The area around ishasha in Rukungiri district is famous for it's tree climbing lions.

The ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national Park is well known for tree climbing lions as they do hide during the day time on top of the fig trees. You can land on a pride of lions over 10 in number in branches of fig tree. This has greatly favoured game drives in this sector in search of the tree climbing lions, which are only sighted here at lake manyara in Tanzania in the entire world. 

Kyambura gorge is another sector attached to this great part and a nature walk to this great gorge is rewarding as you able to sign so many primates here. Many tourists do visit this sector here for the chimpanzee Trekking experience.  For more chimpanzee Trekking, you can visit the kalunzu forest reserve or Kibale National Park which is the hot sport for this chimpanzee trekking Experience. 

Besides the remarkable wildlife attraction, Queen Elizabeth national Park also boosts of attractive heritage/ cultural history. 


BEST TIME FOR WILDLIFE VIEWING:

The park can be visited throughout the year but the best time for wildlife viewing is the dry season (from June to August & January to February) when animals are concentrated  near rivers 


ACTIVITIES:

Game Drives.

This is the leading activity here as you have so many chances of wildlife spotting in this park. There are plenty of wildlife ranging from the bug cats, to African Savannah Elephants, Buffalo, Uganda' kob, and so much more in the kasenyi sector of the park. Except to see lots if you so passionate about wildlife. With a 4x4 rooftop safari vehicle , you able to spot so much.


BOAT CRUISE AT KAZINGA CHANEL:

One of it's kind and amazing, so much reward with ability to spot water birds , crocodiles, hippos, & other wildlife. The two hour boat ride in this great channel will leave you with a memorable trip to remember as you spot elephants & buffalos wallowing in the mud. This is a must activity when in Queen Elizabeth national Park.

CRATER LAKES TOUR

Number of volcanic and Crater LAKES do exist in this region. You can take a drive down to visit the craters lakes, always patched with buffalos & other WILDLIFE leaking the salty minerals from the soil at the lake shores. Some Crater LAKES do harbor flamingos as well.


BIRD WATCHING.

With numerous bird species found in this park, this has made it a Birding spot as visitors are able to spot over 600 species of birds. Number of water birds are seen at the kasenyi landing site.


CHIMPANZEE TREKKING.

This chimpanzee Trekking activity is with in the kyambura gorge and this can be included to any other Uganda' safari activity with in Queen Elizabeth national Park,
