Lake Mburo is located in kiruhura district in the western region of Uganda, originally gazetted in 1993 as a controlled hunting Ground and was upgraded to a game reserve in 1963. The park is about 30km by road East of Mbarara the largest city in the western region. This location is approximately 240km by road, west of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. This is the closest park close to Kampala and can be visited at any time of the day.

Lake mburo National Park is one of the most visited savannah Parks in Uganda however being the smallest with a size of 260km but with it's rich variety of habitants, dry hillsides, Rocky out crops, bushy thickets , open savannah , forest , swamps and lakes . It's home fo variety of animals and plants Making this park unique in it's own setting. And this is the only park in Uganda that one can be able to do a walking  Safari.

WHAT TO DO IN LAKE MBURO?


 WILDLIFE SAFARI: Lake mburo is the only National Park in Uganda with elands, impala and klipspringer. It's also home to the largest population of zebra's in Uganda estimated at about 5,000 and probably contains the highest Concentration of leopards found elsewhere in Uganda's Savannah national Parks. Buffalo, waterbucks, topi, warthogs are also very common here. Reedbuck & Oribi can be spotted in the open valleys. Hyenas, bush pigs and white tailed mongoose are often seen on a night game Drive. Lions are rarely sighted, it's thought there's only one left here. It's the only savannah park where you can do a bicycling safari or foot walking safari. 


BIRDING:

Lake mburo has got over 313 bird species that include the rare white winged warbler, emerald spotted wood dove , the crested francloin, the green wood hoopoe, the blue napped mouse bird, and so many birds to mention a few this making it a birding paradise for travellers interested in birding.


HORSE RIDE:

Horse SAFARIS are an awesome way to see wildlife around mihigo lodge. Without the noise of the engine, you can hear so much more and definitely feel the nature around this park. Riding horses means you often get chance to see the more timid animals.


BOAT TRIPS:

The lake mburo National Park is rich with a diversity of animals and plants species which can be clearly viewed if you take a boat trip. The Crocs, hippos, and birds like pelican, black crake, heron, Cormorant, fish eagle. You definitely except to see lot on this safari boat experience whether you opt for the morning, afternoon or evening session, trust me , it's worth not to miss this when in this park.


NATURE TRAIL:

Offers the visitors chances to admire nature , they have the opportunity to walk in the circuit trails in company of an armed ranger. You can take a walk or even do the jogging with the armed ranger. This is amazing as you have to get upclose to wildlife on foot.


BIKING SAFARI:

Viewing wildlife while paddling is one of the craziest moments as you can site many Animals as you can see close to you.

If you don't feel like spending much time in the car, here is a lovely activity to keep you busy as you bike around the park with the armed rangers. If you're adventurous and like to be fit, grab a bike and explore the savannah park. This is the only savannah you can do this with your family, friends or loved ones creating everlasting memories in Uganda. The experience is really quite amazing.
